Jennifer Sise:

If you had a dollar for every time you heard yourself or someone else say I don't have time for that, you'd probably be rich. I know life can feel like a circus, especially when you're trying to juggle it all, and I know what it's like to be pulled in a million different directions and to feel like there's never enough time to do all the things for all the people. But I really believe that what you want is possible. It just requires some decision making and intentional action. You truly can't make time or find time. You have to set it apart, and I'll show you how to make big moves and take game changing action nine minutes at a time. I'm Jennifer Sise. I love helping impact-oriented women run their home life and business, gain traction in their day to day and have more time with the people they love the most. My heart is to share what I've learned along the way and help you get more of what you want out of your life and work. Every episode is designed to get you on your way to a quick win. So grab your favorite beverage, pull up a chair and let's start making more of your time. Hey there, and welcome to episode three of the In Nine Minutes podcast. I'm Jennifer Sise, and I can't wait to connect with you over the next nine minutes.

Jennifer Sise:

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear says that every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become. No single action will transform who you are or your beliefs, but each action and each repeated action can be a vote cast in your favor. That's powerful, right? That's one of the reasons that the power of nine minutes can be so valuable to consider. Nine minutes doesn't seem that long until you experience what you can actually accomplish nine minutes at a time. What if, over the next year, you voted for the person you want to become for just nine minutes a day? What if you took action towards something you've been resisting or something that has been hanging over your head for just nine minutes? Sometimes the thing we are resisting is something that wouldn't take very long to do, and it could be something that you just need to complete, because it's the power of leaving things in a state of being incomplete that holds us back. Have you heard of the power of completion? Did you know that when things around you stay undone, it can literally impact every area of your life? The power of completion actually has a potential to transform your life in ways you can't even imagine Now.

Jennifer Sise:

The definition of completion is the action or process of finishing something Sometimes known as tying up loose ends. Completion is actually a tool that you can use to your advantage. In his book the Slight Edge, jeff Olsen points out that each and every incomplete thing in your life or work exerts a draining force on you, sucking the energy of accomplishment and success out of you. Incompletion actually blocks your momentum. So I'd wonder if you would think for a minute or two about the things in your life that are undone. Things like writing a thank you note, things like returning a book, things like finishing the project that's been sitting in the garage for two years, writing the book, taking action on one thing that's just been sitting there undone for so long. Basically, completion is the unsung hero of success.

Jennifer Sise:

Completing what you start is not just about finishing tasks, but it brings things to life, it makes your dreams a reality, it turns your intentions into accomplishments and it is about moving forward. Moving things in or being in a state of incompletion keeps you in the past, and when you are stuck in the past, it's like a broken record on repeat and you can't get anywhere. The truth is, what you do matters, and honestly, so does what you don't do. What you do today matters, what you do every day matters. Successful people just do the things that seem to make no difference in the act of doing them, and they do them over and over and over until the compound effect kicks in. Unsuccessful people don't do the things that matter just the same in just the same way, and the act of not doing things compounds too, really not in a good way. Compounding investments apply to time and tasks and work and working out in relationships, and the list goes on and on.

Jennifer Sise:

So think about what is undone in your life and think about what you need to take action towards today so that you can literally take it off your list permanently. But not only that. What if you allowed yourself to complete those things? What if you set apart the time to complete those things so that you could lean into the big things that you want to do? What if you made a decision today to experience the power of completion in your life and made a list of all of the things, write them down, all of the things that are incomplete in your life, and then assign an action to each one, schedule each one on your calendar and take nine minutes to do it. Some of those bigger projects might take nine minutes a day for 10 days, 21 days, whatever. It doesn't really matter how long it takes, as long as you are taking action towards completion, because when you leave things again in a state of incompletion and being undone, you live in the past and when you're looking back, you cannot look forward. At the same time, take nine minutes a day this week even just to complete things Write a thank you note, return a book, send a gift, write a blog post, clean out the garage, tackle the incomplete things in small, focused bursts, in small focused bursts of work, and take action on anything that is incomplete. One thing and one project at a time. Every time you complete something, you get to move with your baggage a little lighter.

Jennifer Sise:

Jeff Olson asks is it easy not to do Absolutely? And if you don't do it today, will it destroy you? No, not today. But you get the idea, because the investment of completion adds up over time and when you start to complete things, you start to move closer to the life and business you really want. So I want to ask you are you ready to vote for the person you want to vote for, want to become today. Are you ready to set a timer for nine minutes and take action towards who you really want to become? I think you can do it and I can't wait to hear all about it. Here's to making big moves, nine minutes at a time. Thanks so much for listening today.

Jennifer Sise:

Do you have questions you'd love to ask, but don't because you aren't sure who to ask? Or you'd rather not let the world in on not having it all together? I get it. I get lots of questions All the time, from parenting to business development, to Bible study recommendations to the best meal to serve a crowd and even how to navigate hard conversations. My husband and kids call me Google and since I'm a problem solver by nature and love research, it sort of fits. So I am so excited to answer your questions.
