Speaker 1:

If you had a dollar for every time you heard yourself or someone else say I don't have time for that, you'd probably be rich. But I really believe that what you want is possible. It just requires some decision making and intentional action. You truly can't make time or find time. You have to set it apart, and I'll show you how to make big moves and take game changing action nine minutes at a time. I'm Jennifer Seiss. I love helping impact-oriented women run their home life and business, gain traction in their day to day and have more time with the people they love the most. My heart is to share what I've learned along the way and help you get more of what you want out of your life and work. Every episode is designed to get you on your way to a quick win. So grab your favorite beverage, pull up a chair and let's start making more of your time. Hey there, and welcome to the In 9 Minutes podcast. I'm Jennifer Seiss, and I can't wait to connect with you over the next nine minutes. This episode is for you.

Speaker 1:

If you ever feel stretched, then always feel like there's something else to do and really want to experience more balance because you feel like you're doing it all and don't always feel like it's getting you anywhere. If you want more balance because you feel like you don't have time for what you really want, or you feel overworked and distracted from what matters most to you, well, over 60% of people who work at all say they struggle with finding work-life balance. So if you're in this camp, you are not alone and, honestly, you can't really find work-life balance. That's true, but you can create it and you can set intentions and take actions towards it. When people feel out of balance, it's typically linked to time and connection. You feel like there's never enough time to do all the things and you feel a strain on your relationships. Today, I'm going to share a few ways that can help you experience more balance. That will address both time and relationships, because they are almost always connected. I want to share a quote with you that is now one of my very favorites.

Speaker 1:

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot and what that means to you is that you get to decide how you navigate and manage your time. Now, I understand there are some pieces of our schedules that we can't control, but for the most part and outside of that, you can navigate and manage your time. You get to decide how to do it. Your approach to time works from the inside out. Whatever your brain does, whatever you tell it to, and you move in the direction of your most dominant thought, you might feel scarcity around time. You might think I don't have time, I'm never going to have enough time, and if you keep thinking that and keep telling your brain that you are going to move in that direction and you're never going to have enough time because you don't allow yourself to and you keep telling your brain that you don't have enough time. So I want to offer you a mindset shift around time and help you remember that time is a resource that you can manage. By being intentional in setting priorities, you can create the space you need for what truly matters, and balance is one of the things that comes more naturally when you have that space.

Speaker 1:

To achieve balance, you need to define what balance means to you and use some tools and potentially some words, around time to help you move towards balance. When you think of balance in general terms, you think of even distribution of things, and when you look at the definition of balance, it uses words like stability, fairness, impartiality, composure or presence of mind. The definition runs the gamut, and that's why I really encourage you to decide what it means to you. Think about what balance means to you, and I think the tools that I'm going to share today will be helpful, no matter how you define it, because ultimately, balance can do any and all of these things that I'm about to mention, and so many more as well. Balance can help you find more satisfaction in your work, help you feel more motivated and disciplined, strengthen your relationships, allow you to be more fully present wherever you are, you can have more intentional time with your family and friends, and it enables you to grow personally and gives you space for personal development and growth, reduces stress and bolsters creativity in every area of your life. And I do want to say that balance for me A big part of balance for me comes when I start my day in the word. It really helps me experience more balance when I spend time with Jesus At the beginning of my day, and that might be helpful for you to. It's not a there's no perfect time and it doesn't have to be at the beginning of the day, but I do know for my own experience that it really does help me when I use that time with the Lord as an anchor for my day.

Speaker 1:

So, moving on to more tools and ideas on how you can experience more balance, first up, making decisions, specifically making decisions in advance is the root of finding more balance, and to decide means to cut off all other options. The decision you have to make first is what matters most to you. Another way to look at it is what needs to matter, and, for that matter, it's wise to consider what doesn't matter and move past that. Once you make those two decisions what matters most to you, or what needs to matter or what doesn't matter you can move on. You can move on, and the next thing you need to do is give yourself permission to ditch the all or nothing mindset and mute anyone who doesn't let you do that. A practical way to do this is by putting the nine minute principle into practice consistently can help you experience real proof that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. You can tackle smaller tasks or, if you have big projects looming, try to address them.

Speaker 1:

Nine minutes a day Over a week or two. In short, focus, burst of work, and you will discover that you didn't have to do it all at one time and you got it done, and you will feel so much better. You can also use nine minutes to connect intentionally with your kids. It's specifically the first three minutes in the morning, three minutes when you reconnect with them at the end of the day and three minutes before they go to bed. Otherwise, you can have these concentrated times of nine minutes of face to face, undistracted connection, and it will be a game changer. It's amazing how much you can accomplish by using the nine minute principle consistently, because small things can add up over time and those things can create unnecessary mental clutter and if you don't tend to them, you will feel overworked and overwhelmed. By addressing them quickly, nine minutes at a time, you can free up space. That calms your central nervous system and it allows you to be more present. And when you use the nine minute approach, it can be especially valuable because it will help you get those to-do list monkeys off your back and again help you be more present.

Speaker 1:

The next thing you need to do is set apart time for what matters most. Set boundaries around that time. When that time is set apart and you have a place to put what you need to do or, better yet, what you want to do, it will be game-changing because you know you have it set apart and you know there's a place for you to make it happen. More often than not, when I have conversations with people about balance, their feelings are linked to wanting more time with the people who matter most to them and feeling disconnected. Balance is ultimately fueled by intentional connection, and fuel means to supply or power. So intentional connection can power and supply balance. When you put fuel in your car, it supplies the power your car needs to get where you want to go. When you fuel your life with intentional connection, it can supply balance.

Speaker 1:

Another thing to be really mindful of is you aim to set apart time for what matters most is boundary setting. Boundaries are vital when it comes to experiencing balance, and sometimes the shortest distance between where you are and where you want to be is a boundary. There are things that don't deserve or require your time and energy, but if you don't set the boundary or say no to it, you will stay in the never-ending cycle of wanting more balance and feeling like you can never have it. If you don't protect the time you set apart for what matters most, distractions in life will creep in and boundaries will help you focus on who and what truly matters and help you live in your values and reach your goals. Remember you can't make time or find time. You have to set it apart and with some decision making, ditching the all or nothing mindset, instead setting time apart, paired with some boundary setting, you can move closer to more balance than you were before this episode.

Speaker 1:

Consider taking nine minutes today to make one of the decisions I mentioned who and what matters most, or who and what needs to matter more, or look at where you need to put a boundary in place and take action towards that. I really, really think you'll be glad you did. Achieving balance is an ongoing process and taking control of your time is now a one-time event, but give some of these things I mentioned to try and, of course, tailor them to your season of life. Most importantly, give yourself some grace. It will take practice. So here's to more balance, nine minutes at a time and, as always, I'm pulling for you.

Speaker 1:

Thanks so much for listening today. Do you have questions you'd love to ask but don't because you aren't sure who to ask, or you'd rather not let the world in on not having it all together? I get it. I get lots of questions all the time, from parenting to business development to Bible study, recommendations to the best meal to serve a crowd and even how to navigate hard conversations. My husband and kids call me Google and since I'm a problem solver by nature and love research, it sort of fits. So I am so excited to answer your questions. You can share your questions with me by DMing me on Instagram at Jennifer Seiss, and I'll answer your questions on an upcoming episode. So here's to more intentional connection and less grind, nine minutes at a time.
